I've seen these, or some that look like them. It might not be the same type of thing, but the ones I saw were some type of "smart" tire that measures things and communicates with the car. Supposedly these will eventually update roads in cars warning other cars about potholes and such.

That rim better be strong, I would hate to hit a pothole with them.
