View Full Version : Project S197 aka Shelly
I had a project post created already but believe that must have been before the last melt down so it was possibly lost.
Vehicle: 2005 Mustang GT (Daily Driven)
Purchased in November 2008 from Gateway Lincoln Mercury with 30k miles
Car was bought completely stock other than some aftermarket stripes were installed and a nasty chrome grille overlay (which was removed a.s.a.p.)
I started off by doing exhaust. Andy @ WOLF did the work and installed a MAGNAFLOW (chambered) axleback exhaust with 4" tips. I then decided the stock wheels had to go and purchase 20" Shelby CS69 rims and Sumitomo Tires (255/35/20 front & 295/30/20 rear) and installed CDC Classic Chin Spoiler. After the rims the car desperately needs to be lowered. I ordered EIBACH sport springs (1.5" drop) and had then installed by Jimmy @ Columbus Custom Exhaust. I found out the car came factory with 3.55 gears so I was good on gearing and decided to order a JLT 2 intake and Tune from Bamachips. This woke up the car dramatically, which I was really surprised. I knew I wanted some kind of quarter window louvers but didn't want to pay out the ass for something so small. Found a painted set on ebay for $150 and I never turned back. They're an aftermarket ford part so they are pretty common which I really could careless. I was set on these mods for a couple months until I hears about the NSR cams that were starting to come out for these 3v motors. I researching the FORD Hotrod Cams and decided that would be the best set for a car that is daily driven. I got a great deal some a guy that had ordered all the parts needed but then traded his car for a GT500. I also had to order two specialty tools (valve spring compressor & timing chain wedge). I knew the install would take a weekend so I decided to go ahead and order Pypes LongTube Headers and Pypes O/R Hpipe from Brenspeed. The pypes headers and midpipe went in pretty easily but the cams took some patience to make sure the motor didn't get out of time in the process. Once that install was complete I went ahead and painted my brake rotors FORD BLUE to match my valve covers under the hood and tinted my brake lights and front marker lights...This past Christmas I installed HURST short-throw shifter, Agent47 side mirrors, and GT500 pedals. This is how the car sits until I find another DD, mostly likely a Ford Bronco (full-size). I've been showing the car quite a bit with good results, the can was bought with a bad passenger side fender (clearcoat is chipping) so I'm looking to get that fixed next. A blower is most likely down the road (whipple) and 302 forged rotating assembly when it comes time to rebuild!
Pics are below: - I will add more recent pics once I get the car cleaned up!

BAMAchips sells the SCT tuners (what I have) and Diablo, but instead of getting the 3 generic tunes you can 3 custom tunes to the mods you have on the car at that time. I forgot to post that after the cams were installed I had to get a new tune and decided to go with Brenspeed. My intake/tune were pretty steep as I had the intake custom painted to match the car.

Yes sir. There are actually many different types. You can get a chip with different tunes, a programmer (similar to what is very popular with diesels), or go custom and get the Livewire. I'll be doing a chip with a custom tune. http://www.sctflash.com/
To keep it on topic, Kevo what SCT setup do you have in the stang?

I have the hand-held X3 with 3 custom tunes. I run the 93 octane Brenspeed tune mostly, would only considering backing down to a lesser octane if gas prices went CRAZY high.

I stand corrected, Doug is the guy at Bamachips (and still there). Either he or a guy from Oregon will tune it. They are probably two of a very few (that I know of at least) who can tune a ZX2, they are really weird.

doug is an awesome guy. sometimes hard to get in touch with but knows his stuff and one of the few people i would trust tuning anything ford. he is a sport compact enthusiast too.
Got my Classic Design Concepts Shaker Hood and AMSOIL air filter on order should arrive sometime this week. Hopefully have them installed and the new stripes fixed by Sunshine before the all ford show down in Pensacola, Florida @ the end of this month.

damn man looks good, the shaker really sets it off
Installed a 6 gauge 'my color' cluster this weekend and picked up some take-off GT500 sway bars for free. Also got some 4.56 gears for the truck (rear axle). Once I find a set for the front I'll be running it down to Columbus Custom Exhaust for Jimmy to do the install. Also still looking for the switches to control the new gauge cluster (4r3z10d889aaa). No luck on ebay, might have to settle ordering from FORD.

Not sure if you have a local Ford dealership you deal with, but the ZX2 world always orders online from John Bleakley up in Lithia Springs. Their price is usually fair and they actually have good customer service.
Gene Evans is usually who I use for FORD stuff (www.gefracing.com - they are a SVT dealer and install FRPP products.

Hmm thanks for the tip. They have a good price on FR struts, which are getting harder to find.

Thanks, I'm pretty much done with the exterior now. Going to work on the interior and suspension now...can't forget the paxton supercharger also!
My friend ended up having the switch I need so now 'my color' cluster is working and I got them changed to white to match the LEDs I changed in my radio and rest of my center console.

Trying to decide if I want to find a set of 17s or 18s to run NITTOs on or just purchase their new 305/35/20 drag radial and surprise some people. Got the LED switchbacks installed (blinkers/driving lights) and looking to remove the vinyls currently on the car and get some stuff painted. Should be getting a GT500 spoiler for Christmas a long with new chin spoiler. If I've been really good hopefully I'll see a new grille/side scoops/and suspension mods. Here is an idea of how I want the finished look to be...to me it looks much cleaner, there are a lot of imperfections on my current vinyls that bother the hell out of me!

Yeah, my son will be born on April 12th (c-section) so I realized this is my last toy for at least awhile. So with that in mind I might as well make the best of it. Probably going to finish the rest of the bolt on mods / suspension / interior and then ride on out. Maybe later on down the road put some kind of forced induction on the car but with two kidos it will be awhile. When you got other things in life cars kind have to fall into their place (which isn't very high on the list). I will still be out every once in awhile at Sonic just because I like talking cars. I don't care if it is a YUGO or a Ferrari...
Thanks for the compliment James...

Got the lower control arms installed (found one tire had a tack in it plus the passenger side rear emergency brake is broke). Also installed the CMDP and loaded the new tune. Car didn't like it at all...idle is all over the place and majority of the time chokes out. When driving the car cuts off at each stop. I've contracted Brenspeed this morning for them to make a few tweaks and see what happens. Going to do the upper control arm and panhard bar later on when I got a lift (hopefully).
