i have been on the look-out for a used 2001 Gti (5-speed black w/ tan interior) and last week i stumbled upon one for sale. the engine have less than 50,000 miles, but the odometer says 76,000 or something around there.well anyway i have him at $3000 for it but i'm hoping to maybe go lower. there are a few things that need to be fixed but nothing too serious. a new paint job is also a must....

Repairs:
-little water damage
-tint peeling (must be redone)
-missing cowl ( that's whats causing the leak)
-driver-side fender is not painted and has rust

I think that is it for repairs.. oh and also the car is not running right now because it is being worked on, but i will buy it running when and if the time comes.
the guy is also throwing in a few extras... Big Turbo Kit!

Big turbo Kit includes:
-GT3071r Ball Bearing Garrett Turbo Charger
-ATP Exhaust Manifold
-Walbro Fuel Pump
-ECU with software (Revo Stage 3+ Software)
-Oil and Collant Lines
-Green Top 440cc Fuel Injectors
-Down Pipe
-Catalytic Converter
-Intake with Filter

He never installed the kit so everything is good....

156157158159

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the build starts when i get it so hopefully soon if things work out..

Exterior:
-fix fender and rust
-maybe a body kit
-head light
-side makers
-side blinkers
-tail lights
-paint job
-tint

and mabe some other stuff

Wheels, Suspension, and Brakes:
-rims (some 5x100 milgia f20's in black would be awesome)
-brakes (front and back)
-rotors (front and back)
-sway bar
-springs (about 1.5" lower)

There is more stuff. i just can't remember it all

Interior, Audio, and Electronics:
-fix the water damage
-maybe switch all the tan to black
-led inside the car
-wheel well custom home-made sub
-amp
-touch screen/navi/bluetooth in dash stereo

Maybe some more stuff.. not sure yet

Engine and Performance:
-IE 19mm 1.8t Drop In Rods
-cams
-pistons
-under-drive pulleys
-IE SAI Blockoff Plate
-Denso IK27 Iridium Spark Plugs
-High Performance Beru Coils
-FMIC or SMIC (which one is better:confused::confused:)
-dress-up kit (gotta make if look cool:cool:)

And i dont know what else i might need......

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to get this car in the 300's hp rage. but i don't want to exceed 350 (that's a little to much)....
I want to keep the car with as much stock internals as possible and i don't want to spend to much.
a lot of the stuff will be done by me and some help for others and it will be done at my house, zach's, or the girlfriend...

i want to get this looking good, running fast, and kicking azz!

but if you have any suggestions or you see something missing in the mix let me know..
i'll take all the help i can get!

Good plan, we need to get to work when you finally buy it.

Rbelaez21
04-21-2010, 10:09 PM
i am trying to get it as quick as possible.. but hey.. do you think if i do rods and pistons the engine will hold up for a while... im gonna need a boost controller cause as a DD i want it at a low psi(like around 8 or something) but i want to take it up a notch when i want to let the beast out!!!

Zach check this out....

Ya, Integrated does some good work I hear. Looks like a solid build.

Rbelaez21
04-22-2010, 02:17 PM
well i find it convenient that he has the same turbo i have and some other stuff... its relativly cheap to get 423whp! i only want like 350whp MAX!

.....Then we can race:p

Filthy Dub
04-22-2010, 04:49 PM
Not lol

theboostedsnail
04-22-2010, 06:03 PM
yea man rods and dish pistons will help you out in longetivity cause they for one will be stronger than stock, and two lower the internal compression so you arent puttin as much strain on the internals/engine, but thats a damn good price to include the turbo kit lol

Filthy Dub
04-22-2010, 07:13 PM
No joke, I almost didnt believe him.

Rbelaez21
04-22-2010, 09:24 PM
i know i consider myself lucky... would any one know what type of pistons to get, size wise, cause there are a bunch of sizes and i dont know what kind i need for the car..
and what is the max psi i can put on this little engine... i want it to be really low for when im driving, but then able to beast the streets

Filthy Dub
04-22-2010, 09:51 PM
It depends on the turbo/compression, blah its a lot. Read up on the Forced Induction forums on Vortex, theres good info, but dont post unless you cant find it through the search button.

Rbelaez21
04-25-2010, 10:48 PM
well i found out that i want some drop-in pistons that are 81mm, but i found two..... one has a compression ratio of 8.5:1 and the other has 9.25:1

i have really no clue in which is better... price wise they are both the same.. but i need to know how the compression affects the engine and what would be better for the car

some help please... i am lost

Filthy Dub
04-25-2010, 11:27 PM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_ratio too much to explain.

Rbelaez21
04-25-2010, 11:44 PM
so i guess i go with the 9.25:1... right zach...thats cool other than the fact that i have to go premium all the time

New List Of Engine parts/ Internals:
-performance valve set (http://www.intengineering.com/18t-20v-Performance-Valve-p5384329-1-2.html)
-pistons/rods combo (http://www.intengineering.com/18T-JE-Pistons-IE-Rods-p6875319-1-2.html)
-cat cams (http://www.intengineering.com/Cat-Cams-3658-Grind-Hydraulic-p6672265-1-2.html)
-lifters set (http://www.intengineering.com/OEM-VW-Audi-20v-18T-Hydraulic-p8417833-1-2.html)
-valve spring set/retainers (http://www.intengineering.com/18t-20v-Performance-Valve-p5384332-1-2.html)
-timing pulley (http://www.intengineering.com/Adjustable-Timing-Pulley-p4748046-1-2.html)
-under drive crank pulley (http://www.ngpracing.com/store/index.php?target=products&product_id=1072)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
that would run around $7200 new that is, but i am looking for used parts that are in good shape for less... but after all this i believe the engine will be fail proof and running awesome!

once all this is done the BT can come on and i am hoping to see 335whp with medium psi... 400+whp with psi in the 20's

the car will still need a few things:
-spark plugs
-ignition coils
-blockoff plate
-FMIC/SMIC
-intake manifold

then the engine will be done and with the help of a good boost controller the streets will be mine......

soon after all this i think a new clutch and flywheel will be a must.. but that is later.

Filthy Dub
04-26-2010, 12:28 AM
The 1.8T only takes premium...so your SOL anyways lol. Basically, lower compression, more boost you can safely run.

Rbelaez21
04-26-2010, 12:41 AM
i thought it was the other way around?? so i should go for the 8.5:1?

Turbo/Supercharger - lower compession = the safer you are run more boost

Nitrous - loves high compression

Filthy Dub
04-27-2010, 12:14 PM
^ pretty much. You can probably find a head gasket spacer to drop the compression a bit, thats what I'm doing.

Well I took a look at the car today but I didn't get it yet. I really liked it and it's not running yet. The new turbo still needs to be put in and then it'll run. I found out that the car had a few more extras. It has a manual boost controller blow off valve front and rear sway bars and a few more stuff . I am really excited about it but I think I will have it in two weeks . I just need it running before anything.

spark plug wires... need to find some also...
Electronic Boost controller... Need to find one
----------------------------------------------------------
so thats what i'll need for the BT for it to be installed...

there are other things that need to be done also...

-cowl replacement
-rusted fender
-winshield replacement( it has a crack)

then there are things that i just want but they'll come on another post......

Rbelaez21
05-06-2010, 11:26 PM
Now here are the wants.....

raderwerks mo-2 mb with 18x8 F and 18x9 R--$841
F and R Stress Bars--$200
JL audio system with stealthbox sub w/touch screen radio--around $1000...wanna get it lower

thats all that comes to mind for right now, but i also want to find out how to hide or re-rout all the tubing and cords under the hood to give it a clean look and i want to move the battery to somewhere else other than under the hood...

any suggestions let me know..
oh and for the record.. the engine build will now cost me less than $1250, i price that is more in my range. this leaves some money in the pocket for some upgrades!!:D

I just noticed somethings on your OP that must be addressed. "maybe a body kit" What are you looking at doing? I want to go JTI with Votex and an R-Line rear bumper.
Like so...
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss74/Zero41792/JTIVotex.jpg
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss74/Zero41792/JTIVotex2.jpg
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss74/Zero41792/JTIVotex1.jpg
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss74/Zero41792/JTIVotex5.jpg

and "springs (about 1.5" lower)" I would go ahead and get Racelands or V-Maxx coils they are 350-400 and a pretty good deal, plus you can go way lower than 1.5 fixed.

lastly "under-drive pulleys" If you want to go with all of those electronics I wouldnt get UD pulleys just get lightweight ones. Otherwise your battery will die quickly.

Rbelaez21
05-10-2010, 08:22 PM
thanks for the advice.. i also want to go JTI but im not sure... engine and BT come first!
Zach or who ever... is a performance oil cooler kit good? is it a worth-it up grade?http://www.eurosportacc.com/eurosport_oil_cooler_oilcooler_kit_mocal.htm

and what is a catch can for and is it worth getting? it looks cool!https://store.forcefedengineering.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=FFE_MK4_PCV

on a different note i found the intercooler and clutch kit i want ... i just need to find inter cooler tubing and ill be set!
Clutch https://store.forcefedengineering.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=FFE_CM_FX400_02J

Intercooler https://store.forcefedengineering.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=PRECISION_INT600

Coils...

What you going to do once you go JTI? You could always go JTI with GLI lip. Like so...
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss74/Zero41792/Wagen8-1.jpg

And the oil cooler is probably a good idea with that BT Kit you have. For stock or simple bolt ons its not necessary, but with all of that heat I would get one when you go BT.

That FMIC and Clutch are kinda high, but idk just search around for cheaper ones. Check out ECS Tuning for clutches and MJM.

Rbelaez21
05-10-2010, 08:50 PM
zach.. i like my clutch and intercooler cause i know i can go over 400hp is i mess with the psi.. but you didnt answer my question on what is a catch can you whore!

and for the JTI swap i dont know yet.. but i might want a votex and boser hood with a r line rear bumper and a little lip spoiler with r32 side skits

Filthy Dub
05-10-2010, 08:54 PM
Copy cat...lol I love the JTI Votex look...Sadly they dont make my cars color on the Jetta's so I would have to get it painted...
Oh and the catch can catches the carbon and sludge from your engine and intake system, most people use one and theyre not too $ so I say might as well.

Rbelaez21
05-10-2010, 09:00 PM
awesome cause i found one i like a lot for ok amount of $$.....

why dont you like me intercooler/ clutch selection??

and for the oil cooling kit should i get medium duty or heavy duty?

Filthy Dub
05-10-2010, 09:04 PM
Hmm with the BT? It couldn't hurt to go HD. Oh and nothing wrong they just seem high in $ but idk maybe not.

Rbelaez21
05-10-2010, 09:57 PM
well how about you find me a better clutch and flywheel set...sounds good?
and the intercooler is the one the integrated engineering guy told me to get.. i just need the tubing. but he said they can make that too.. but its said that they have the best intercoolers and 385 doesnt sound like that much... most full kits and 900 or so

Rbelaez21
05-10-2010, 10:49 PM
zach which is better the raceland coilovers that are $340 or the VMAXX that will end up being like $470?

Filthy Dub
05-10-2010, 11:06 PM
Supposedly the Racelands are "rebranded" V-Maxx coils so I'd just get the Racelands...Im thinking about selling mine and picking some of these up this summer. Ya the FMIC is a pretty good price, just get some generic IC piping kit for the rest.

Rbelaez21
05-10-2010, 11:16 PM
i just found out piping is expensive as crap...raceland it is... i think $700 for a clutch and flywheel id pretty good..is it
?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????

Rbelaez21

Filthy Dub
05-11-2010, 01:14 PM
Why? Most of the reviews say they are pretty good for what you pay. I mean you cant beat the price. FK Streetlines are the best "budget" coils but V-Maxx are the same as the FK's.

Rbelaez21
05-11-2010, 01:17 PM

From what i heard after like 6k they ride like ass, and they are non rebulidable. I mean they are ok, but if your going to be tracking the car, or going low VMAXX = nono

Filthy Dub

Provides 40mm (1.6") of lowering, features a complete front strut assembly with non-adjustable shocks. Full Vogtland lifetime warranty!

We use our tried and trusted sport springs with progressive tuning and only the best quality performance shock absorbers in our VOGTLAND complete kits. Brake dives and body roll during cornering are significantly reduced.

Special rebound shock absorbers are characterised by their high dynamic response even at the limits of their performance. The use of these, in some cases adjustable shock absorbers, in combination with the corresponding performance springs, guarantees the necessary pre-suspension of the springs, even with an extreme lowering of 50 - 60 m. The individual tuning of the high-performance shock absorbers is backed up by many years of experience in co-operation with leading tuning specialists.

lol, dont go cheap on coilovers

as where you can get regular lowering springs/shocks struts w/e for around 500 shipped. Suspension is a big deal lol, i have H&R street performance coilovers still sitting in the box I am just to lazy to put them on haha. Right now I am on "modified" Coils lol

By modified meaning I cut them bitches with a sawzaw lol. My H&R kit new is like 1600 but i got it "lightly" used from a guy on the Zine for 850

Rbelaez21

GHETTO!! ha ha

but for the H&R's thats not a bad price, but it's still a little too much for me

for a boost controller i hope to not spend more that $500 or so.......

But cheap coils go lower! You cant slam your car on those 1.4" drop coils...plus theyre so cheap when they shit out you can buy new ones later. But if you have the money...get good ones lol. I wish I could quote this on Vortex lol "By modified meaning I cut them bitches with a sawzaw"

there it is... the massive list... but i am sure that i can find better and lower prices on almost everything which would reduced the amount of spending by a lot... i have already found multiple parts for sale that i need.
i will also be trying to sell all the Oem stuff that will be swapped out for the new stuff; hence adding money money in my pocket to spend on the car.
hopefully selling and spending will even out and i,ll be in good shape

let me know what you guys think....

Thanks!

A Kia?

How the hell do you go from wanting to mod a gti to wanting to own a Forte???
That's like planning and researching to build a nuclear reactor then deciding you're just going to purchase a 9 volt battery instead. The Forte looks alright but I mean c'mon, it's still a freakin KIA! I think I'm going to research and price out an R34 build and then go buy a Yugo.

This! I can't hate, I almost bought a KIA Forte Koup instead of my 3.... then I woke up lol. For real though KIA isn't a BAD car... just not great.
